King Yahoo No More!

King Yahoo No More!

King Yahoo has been overthrown in Internet traffic by its rival Google. This is according to ComScore’s latest study which shows that Google’s network of websites has generated more traffic than Yahoo’s websites.

This is extremely interesting since Yahoo has been the leader for some time in Internet traffic. Yet, ComScore shows that Google’s sites had 528 million visitors worldwide in March, a 13% increase from March of last year, whereas Yahoo was only up 1% with 476 million.

This really is a skewed study in my opinion. All Google or Yahoo has to do is buy a really popular website with lots of traffic to get ahead—wait, isn’t that what YouTube did for Google!

Yahoo’s Irresponsibility–Virginia Tech’s Gunman Video

Yahoo’s Irresponsibility–Virginia Tech’s Gunman Video

Cho Seung-Hu A video clip by the Virginia Tech gunman was found on the front page of Yahoo yesterday. The video was mailed to NBC by the gunman, Cho SeungHu, in between Monday’s killings. Currently a debate pursues on whether showing this controversial video will encourage future copy-cat behavior from other troubled individuals.

Cho Seung-Hu - Virginia Tech Murder This debate may be only between my friend and I, but I feel that it is worth writing about. Yesterday, as I worked on writing my articles for Podango I kept going to Yahoo’s home page to search for particular information. Every time I went there I viewed into the empty eyes of Cho SeungHu, while he pointed two handguns at me.

Interestingly enough, the thought never occurred to me to report on the video until later that night when I talked to my friend Sarah. I told Sarah about how Cho Seung-Ho had sent NBC a package with an assortment of video clips at 9:01 am, about an hour and 45 minutes after Cho first opened fire. Sarah was obviously bothered by the fact that Yahoo had posted this clip for everyone to watch. She argued, quite articulately, that the media has a moral responsibility to safeguard against similar occurrences.

Chinese Prisoner Sues Yahoo!

Chinese Prisoner Sues Yahoo!

Wang Xiaoning Wednesday, through his wife, a Chinese political prisoner, Wang Xiaoning, sued Yahoo. The suit accuses Yahoo of handing over communications which indirectly lead to the prisoner’s brutal beating by the Chinese government. The lawsuit, filed in California, falls under the seventeen 1789 Alien Tort Claims Act, allowing foreigners to sue in U.S. courts for violations of international law. Most of the international law violations come about from gross injustices with human rights and geneocide.

Seth Godin Revolution

I wasn’t satisfied with the results in my last post, so I decided to do some further digging. I found a great website called BlogPulse. BlogPulse has a lot of tracking tools, however, there were some things I didn’t like about it.

Salt Lake City Versus Phoenix

Salt Lake City Versus Phoenix

I have been curious about how much “buzz” we have been generating here in SLC in trying to get Seth Godin to come. More particularly, I wanted to see a comparison with the other cities who are doing the same thing. When I did a search on Seth Godin’s book tour all I could find was Phoenix’s efforts. Below are some graphs from IceRocket comparing the buzz between Utah and Arizona (the graph may be difficult to see, if this is the case click the graph for a larger look).

So what do you think? This is the blog badge we are looking to have people put on their blogs when they commit to having Seth Godin come to Utah. Let me know what you think is your favorite and what we can do to improve them.

Seth’s email

Seth’s email

I just noticed that Janet posted the email that Seth sent her. So I have it below.

P.S. I just got done harassing Janet for stealing my Seth Godin picture, idea (getting the networking community involved), and my verbage (I talked about “the mothership” to her last night). It’s a good thing that I don’t mind my partner stealing pieces of my brain! No really it’s always a compliment when Janet feels me worthy to quote or steal!

Web Marketing God…in!

Web Marketing God…in!

seth_godin.jpg This is exciting news! I am part of a street team who is pushing hard to get Seth Godin to come to Utah on May 24th. The only way we can get him to lock in SLC is if we can get 500 people to commit to pay $50 by this coming Monday (quick I know but we can do it). This is for his book tour to promote his new book, “The Dip – A Little Book that Teaches you When to Quit (and when to Stick).”

Click Here to see how you can be sure to get Seth Godin to come to Salt Lake City. What makes this very interesting is that a lot of different states are competing for him to come. The nice thing though, is that he has lowered his speaking fee, but only for a short while (does that sound like a used car sales pitch or what!).
