Why Do We Put Up With Twitter?

Why do we put up with Twitter? Oh yeah, it’s free! Yet, only twitter would give me the below error (midday Friday) and still be  considered the web’s beautiful darling!

How To Record Phone Calls For Free (and legally)

How To Record Phone Calls For Free (and legally)

I am working on a project that requires me to interview a lot of people over the phone. If anyone has done this, he or she knows that it is really hard to pay attention to your interviewee when you are taking copious notes.

Living in the amazing era that we do, I knew that there had to be a cool website that allowed me to record my phone calls for free. Anytime I have to do a search for something cool like this I don’t turn to Google—I ask Delicious.com’s opinion.

Domains For Sale List #004

e-shopping-cart1 WHAT IS THIS?

All domains listed below have recently been deleted from the domain registry and are for sell. You will want to treat these domains as if they have no history at all (at least, this is how Google will see it).

If you are interested in any of the below domains simply contact me with the name you want to buy. I offer these domains to the first responders, so the early bird gets the domain.

Does Subliminal Advertising Work?

by Paul Wilson

Every since I was a kid and first heard about subliminal advertising I have been fascinated about whether it works or not. In college I read a study about a Canadian TV network running subliminal advertising and then informing their viewers at the end of the program. They asked people to call in and tell them what they thought was being advertised to them—less than one percent got it right.

I believe if done correctly subliminal advertising could work. This video makes me believe that I just might be right.

Another Tool In The Fight Against Viruses!

Another Tool In The Fight Against Viruses!

computer-virus So, last week was a frustrating week. For the first time in 10 years I received a virus on my computer. The virus was so nasty that I had to completely re-image my hard drive. Then the very next day, as I was trying to install all my programs, I got another virus. This time I had to put in a brand new hard drive. Thankfully, I was able to recover all my content but for security I changed all my passwords.

Now, last night I think another virus may have hit me. For some reason I get a window coming up now and then trying to pull a pdf file from a chinese site. The actual string is: mirain.cn/sv/pdf.php?f=all. Let me tell you how frustrating all this.

My biggest concern is that I do all my bills and banking online. I was telling a friend about this and he recommended a free keystroke encryption software on download.com called Blue Gem. I have now downloaded this on my computer and my wife’s. It won’t stop the virus from infecting my computer but it will stop them from accessing personal information.

Fixing Image Alignment in WordPress

Fixing Image Alignment in WordPress

03-17-09_wordpress-theme I help develop a lot of custom wordpress themes (you can see some of my work in the gallery). One common mistake that a lot of developers make is having images in post be styled according to wordpress standards. Case in point, the theme for MyMarketer is a free theme. When I tried on the theme all the images in my posts no longer held their formatting.

I came across this problem with one of my freelance projects and asked the developer of the project his thoughts. Here is the email he sent:

Actually we need to add extra CSS classes for customized themes, so the final CSS rules would be:

Internet Money—Lesson 2, Part 1b: What To Call Your Website

Internet Money—Lesson 2, Part 1b: What To Call Your Website

Today is my birthday, and unfortunately for me I woke up with a head cold. However, fortunately for you since I decided to spend my birthday with my wife I cleared my day. Yet, I’m miserable and my wife can only only dote on me so much. So, I decided that I could be miserable and blog just as easy as I could as being just miserable. Therefore, I figure I would catch up on my posts, since it has been a few weeks from my last post.

We left off on how to find and name your domain. I promise to not be so long winded (but I can’t guarantee it). As far as the domain name goes, I recommend trying to find an old domain that is generic. A four or five letter domain that just has consonants helps. That way you can create an acronym for your website, and if you decide to change directions on your website down the road you can just create another acronym.

Case in point, lets say you own the domain scwp.org, and you decide you want to do a cell phone website. You can call it, “Supportive Cellular Web Professional.” However, for whatever reason, you decide to change your website to provide school loans, you then can call it, “SChool Web Program.” Either way, nobody is going to really care, including Google, what your acronym is.

PubCon’s Best & Lamest Schwag Award!

PubCon’s Best & Lamest Schwag Award!

The fun thing about going to industry conferences are all the schwag products you get from the exhibitors. I know these companies spend thousands and thousands of dollars to bring us the next cool gizmo or gadget with their business’s name brand on it.

So, to show my gratitude to the corporate dollars this post is specifically to give back the love—or link love—to those companies who gave me free stuff. This post is also about spotlighting the best and worst schwag being handed out here in Vegas. Hopefully, this feedback will assist those seemingly wealthy corporate marketing departments in bringing us cooler and better schwag.
