I am working on a project that requires me to interview a lot of people over the phone. If anyone has done this, he or she knows that it is really hard to pay attention to your interviewee when you are taking copious notes.

Living in the amazing era that we do, I knew that there had to be a cool website that allowed me to record my phone calls for free. Anytime I have to do a search for something cool like this I don’t turn to Google—I ask Delicious.com’s opinion.

Making A Case For WordPress As Your Blogging Software Solution

Making A Case For WordPress As Your Blogging Software Solution

These days I use wordpress for anything related to web management or development, or at least some variation of wordpress (bbpress, buddypress, and anything else press). Recently, I received a forwarded email from a friend who was making a case for wordpress. The email was to the executive leaders of his company who are thinking of creating a custom blog system from scratch and trashing their current wordpress blog they’ve had for over a year.

I do not doubt other individuals have run into similar issues with their own company. When I worked for Oracle I spoke with many billion dollar companies who felt they could create something better than what Oracle had.

The New Generals of the Twitter Army

The New Generals of the Twitter Army
moldova-twitters

This is an actual image from the New York Times of the Moldova riots (though, I might have added the twitter image =)

Last week the New York Times wrote about how twitter was used to organize and instigate a massive riot in the Republic of Moldova (an Eastern Europe country, located between Ukraine and Romania). In ten minutes,  several tweets deployed a crowd of 10,000 to protest  the Moldova’s Communist leadership.

The organized mob thrashed government property and engaged riot police with rocks. The conflict became so heated that the government had to result to drastic measures—they cut off Internet access to the Moldova’s capital city, Kishinev. Unfortunately,  for the Communist party, the rioters continued to tweet on their cell phones. Someone really needs to give Karl Marx a crash course on Twitter!

The Problem With Podcasting!

The Problem With Podcasting!

podcast_cr If you ask any of my friends I am passionate about blogging. I even have a vanity license plate that says “Blogger.” So, I admit I am a bit of a fanatic.

However, being the fanatic blogger that I am, I also get the priviledge of being annoyed by certain elements of blogging that probably doesn’t bother the majority of the blogosphere.

My biggest gripe deals with the podcasting element of blogging. I build a lot of blogs and there really isn’t a good free theme for either video or audio. Not to mention that the audio podcast plugins are not that great.

My Blog Pitched Revisited

by Paul Wilson

My Blog Pitched Revisited
MyMarketer is continually growing and developing. Due to this fact, I have added updated notes at the bottom of this post to represent this growth.

pitch-confusion Last Monday I did a post talking about my Blog Pitch. I concluded that my pitch was “Understanding Internet Marketing.” I have had this as my blog tagline for months and have worked hard to stick with this as my mantra.

However, speaking this morning to my friend, Dan, has pushed me into rethinking MyMarketer. Both Dan and I are a part of a small web marketing team with a large corporation. We have been pounding away with this company websites’ for a couple of years.

I actually started at this company as their SEO expert and then was able to have Dan and another friend, Jared, hired on. At first, all three of us were tripping over each other. We all heavily specialized in SEO, but we also all had strengths in other areas of web marketing.

This Years BUM Award: Joost de Valk

by Paul Wilson

This Years BUM Award: Joost de Valk

The BUM Award Back in the day, companies would come up with awards and then give these awards to certain websites. The whole purpose of the award was to stroke the ego of the website and to build links to the company giving the award out. I have decided that if I were to create my own imaginary award I would call it: Blogger Unknown to Many or BUM.

Not just anyone would receive my BUM award—for there certainly are many unknown bloggers out there. No the BUM Award would have to go to the blogger who: 1) actually really was an expert in his/her field (not just a self-proclaimed guru) 2) provided stellar content, amazing value, and knew what he/she was talking about, and 3) no matter how good their blog was or how knowledgeable they really were—the vast majority would still have no idea who they were.

The blogger I would give the BUM Award to this year is Joost de Valk, who blogs over at yoast.com. If you are a die hard blogger (particularly on wordpress) than you probably think I am crazy to believe that Joost deserves the BUM Award. A lot of the well known wordpress plugins are either developed by Joost or maintained by him. He also is one of the most advanced Internet marketers out there. His combination of programming knowledge and SEO is far superior than most bloggers on the web.

My Own Challenge: Creating One Massive List of Lists

by Paul Wilson

See The Mother of All Lists.

Darren Rowse over at Problogger is doing another “31 Days to Build a Better Blog.” In his second lesson he encouraged those participating to create a list post and then to submit the list into the comments of his post.

By the time I submitted my own list there were hundreds of lists already submitted (553 to be exact). Being that I recently became a father in the last few days sleeping has become a luxury. This being the case, I decided to take advantage of my sleepless nights and compile all the lists that were in Darren’s comments.

Domains For Sale List #004

e-shopping-cart1 WHAT IS THIS?

All domains listed below have recently been deleted from the domain registry and are for sell. You will want to treat these domains as if they have no history at all (at least, this is how Google will see it).

If you are interested in any of the below domains simply contact me with the name you want to buy. I offer these domains to the first responders, so the early bird gets the domain.

The Top Five AntiSocial Social Sites

The Top Five AntiSocial Social Sites

antisocial For several years I have studied and participated in online communities. Without doubt they make the web fun. However, I have also noticed that the most interesting people run these websites. It’s like there is this inner circle of moderators/gestapo who are the most antisocial beings on the planet. It seems that certain social communities deliberately recruit people who have ogre DNA.

If it sounds like I am a little bitter it is because I am. For the last several years I have been an active member of the webmaster forum, Digital Point.  A few days ago I was banned from the forum due to a stupid mistake on my part. Now, a lot of my freelance work depends on this forum, so, I tried to see if I could somehow talk to someone about my wrongdoing. However, every time I typed in the site I received the following screen:
