Possible Reasons of Why You Should Seed Your Blog’s Footer

If you look at the footer of MyMarketer you will notice something you might not have seen before—three miniature articles. The articles you will find focus on three areas: blog content, general web marketing, and search marketing. The titles of the articles are: Tips on Creating Great Content, How To Do Web Marketing Better, and Top Search Marketing Mistakes.

These are not your typical blog articles, but rather seriously condensed posts that are roughly 130 to 150 words and use about 20 lines of space. I call these mini articles Footer Seeds, and as far as I am aware this technique isn’t really being used in the blogosphere.

I decided to create these Footer Seeds for several reasons. First, I needed something to place in my footer. In the previous design I placed my social media efforts down at the bottom, and after I redesigned MyMarketer I moved my social media spots up to the sidebar. The new design focuses much more on the importance of social media and I felt it was pertinent for visitors to easily know where else to find me on the Internet (which wouldn’t have been achieved in the footer).

Google’s Billions & Why SEO is so Important to your Marketing

According to Google’s Annual Stock Holder Report, 99% of all its revenues come from their advertising programs (and not the 97% usually reported). For a company which almost did 35 billion dollars in revenue last year, that’s rather impressive.

As Google’s advertising flagship, Adwords is the bulk of that cash flow. The creative people at Wordstream did an infographic on the 20 most expensive keywords in Google AdWords. I was curious to see what it would cost if SEO was treated like Adwords. Meaning, what we would have to pay Google if they charged us per click for every #1 organic position we held in their search engine.

Doing this exercise puts in to perspective the importance of ranking organically over paid. There is no doubt that paid has a place in a search marketing strategy, but for many users the instant fix of paid search heavily over shadows the long run benefits of SEO.

Google+ on the Path to Social Divinity

Yes, you might have seen this demotivator before, being that I created it originally for Quora. However, in a mere few weeks Google+ has had astronomical growth, and is expected to hit 20 million users by the end of the weekend. Quora is over two years old and still hasn’t hit a million users. So, when when it comes to the social wars for godhood I believe Quora loses out to the Herculean infant—G+.

P.S. I promise to retire this demotivator and rely on genuine creativity with the uprising of the next social deity Ü

Is Social Media Your Porn?

Note: My wife was rather concerned when I showed her the title of this post. I put her at ease by sharing that this article does not focus on anything that would make her, my mother, or the Pope’s grandmother feel uncomfortable.

At the end of this post is an updated video from an older video that has been circulating, in one form or another, around YouTube for the past several years. If you go to the 37th second of the video you will see the statement, “Social Media has overtaken pornography as the #1 activity on the web.” This statement was provided in the original video (though, with a little variation in wording), but for some reason the importance of it didn’t catch my attention until now.

I decided to do some digging on the validity of this statement and found that the source comes from a September 16, 2008 Reuters article titled, “Porn passed over as Web users become social.” The article shows a study done by Bill Tancer, the general manager of global research at Hitwise (a well respected web tracking company). Tancer analyzed information from over 10 million web users to conclude that indeed the normal Internet user is choosing social media over online pornography.

As long as there have been search engines there have been people claiming to be SEO pros/gurus/wizards/ninjas. These so called “experts” make amazing claims and promise you the world of rankings. However, in the end these charlatans often do more damage than good.

So, in hopes in saving a few souls from the dark side I introduce 6 tips in unearthing a true SEO Jedi.

6. Realistic Results – It is not uncommon to desire to have thousands of people to come to your website overnight—it’s human nature. However, it is also unrealistic, particularly with SEO. Yet, the SnakE Oil salesperson will prey upon this desire in hopes to make a quick sale. A true Search Engine Optimization Jedi knows that SEO takes time and grows slowly. He or she will layout guidelines that must be met in order receive results that are realistic for your website.

Declaration of Endurance

On July 4th 1776 a ragtag group, whom we respectfully refer to as our founding fathers, declared independence from Great Britain, the largest political and geographical power the world has ever known. Our founding fathers represented the small and unorganized 13 American colonies who were diverse in their beliefs and their allegiances. However, they had one common goal and that was to gain freedom to govern themselves.

This statement of independence, or what would be known throughout American history as The Declaration of Independence, came six years before the end of the American Revolutionary War. It was the winning of the Revolutionary War that made the Declaration of Independence  a reality.

Achieving the final goal of independence from Britain was fraught with mistakes and over-calculations. However, what was more important than the Declaration of Independence was America’s Declaration of Endurance. This declaration was created without pomp and celebration, and persisted throughout the colonies as an unwritten code.
